Wellsford

SH1 and SH16 meet at Wellsford, northernmost town in Auckland region, halfway between Auckland and Whangarei. Established in 1862 by Albertlanders, who were originally heading to Port Albert, but chose Wellsford instead. Follow up on this story in local museum. Whether you’re stopping for a break on your way north (or south), Wellsford has numerous cafes and shops worth visiting. Surfers will love waves at Te Arai, Tomarata lakes for freshwater swim, Dome Valley for hiking adventure, choice is up to you.
