Highfield Garden Reserve

Highfield Garden is delightful parklike reserve between Snells Beach and Algies Bay. Land was originally farm and belonged to Ted & Alison Roberts, who used donkeys for various gardening projects and grazing grass. Land was gifted to people of New Zealand and thanks to fantastic team of volunteers, who take care of Highfield Garden Reserve and donkeys, public can enjoy this lovely place.

There’s two carparks, smaller one at the main entrance and bigger, recently renovated, on top of the hill. Donkeys can be fed carrot, apple and silverbeet, in moderation. Even though they might seem tame, don’t try to enter paddocks and keep an eye on children.

Within the reserve you’ll find number of short interconnected tracks and lookouts with views over Snells Beach, Algies Bay and Scandrett. One of the tracks goes down to beach in Algies Bay. Don’t miss Lily Pond Reserve, opened in 2021, short boardwalk track along which was planted 40 native species.
