Atiu Creek
Atiu Creek was opened in 2008 and is one of the biggest regional parks in the area. Land was gifted by Pierre and Jackie Chatelanat in 2006.
Atiu Creek is magnificent not only in its size, 843 hectares, but also in options it offers. There’s extensive network of walking tracks, making it easy to create alternative walks. Park is also open for mountain bikes and horse riders (riders require a horse riding pass). Atiu Creek campground let riders stay overnight with their horse. Another accomodation option is to book a night in beautiful Courtyard House.
Atiu Creek is located slightly off beaten track making it wonderful option to explore the place without crowds.
How to get there
Atiu Creek is 113km from Auckland, drive on SH1 to Warkworth, then continue to Wellsford, then turn left onto Port Albert Road. Carry on Port Albert Road, turn right to Port Albert. At intersection at Port Albert turn left to Wharehine Road. After 6km turn right onto Run Road. Park entrance is 5km on the right.
