Tawharanui
Tawharanui Regional Park, located on Tawharanui Peninsula, is an open sanctuary with a predator-proof fence over 2km long protecting local flora and fauna from unwanted pests. Tawharanui has lots to offer, from white sand beaches and rolling green hills to native forest and wetlands. Park was established in 1973, Tawharanui Marine Reserve occupies northern shoreline of peninsula.
When it comes to walking, you can choose from easy 30 minutes walks to more challenging trails from 2 to 4 hours. Even simple walk along the beach in Anchor Bay will refresh your mind and senses.
Find your private, secluded spot for a picnic, have a barbecue with family and friends, run along the beach or take your surfboard and chase the waves.
There’s basic campground and bach available for rent.
How to get there
About 85km from Auckland, drive on SH1 to Warkworth, then continue to Matakana. Drive through Matakana and turn right before Country Park. On the roundabout take second exit and follow signs to Tawharanui on the Takatu Road.
