Wenderholm
Wenderholm is oldest regional park in Auckland area, opened in 1965. Name is derived from historic homestead, which was called Wenderholm (winter home).
Wenderholm is surrounded by Puhoi and Waivera rivers. With its park like grounds it’s ideal spot for picnics, especially in the summer with beautiful pohutukawas in full bloom. There’s plenty of walks from nice and easy stroll along the beach or through plentiful greenery to more challenging ones with stunning views over Puhoi river and Hauraki Gulf. Make sure you get a copy of Wenderholm Regional Park leaflet (available from information stall at the carpark), which includes map and detailed description of walking tracks.
Couldrey House is a historic homestead named after its last private owner. Travel back in time while admiring its beautifully restored interiors. Its open on weekends, 1 to 4pm, small entrance fee, adults $5 NZD, children are free.
How to get there
Wenderholm is 48km from Auckland, entrance is on SH17 north of Waivera.
Dogs
Dogs are allowed on leash in following areas: on the Waivera Estuary, Kokoru Bay and walking tracks to the north side of the Schischka campground and the Perimeter Track between the entrance road and Waivera Bridge. Dogs prohibited in the rest of the park.
